Naiomi Wilson gives a voice to Caribbean Carnival Culture

Carnival Slayers is the realization of a profound vision brought forth by Naiomi Wilson, who established the platform on March 14, 2017.

As a pioneering Black entrepreneur, passionate carnival advocate, and devoted mother, Naiomi’s dynamic career began in real estate before evolving into project and event management.

Motivated by her personal experiences as a dedicated masquerader at numerous global carnivals, Naiomi recognized the power and liberation associated with playing mas—the uninhibited joy, the vibrant sense of community, and the unique thrill of being celebrated in front of the camera.

This inspiration came with the understanding that carnival is more than just festivity; it’s a celebration of identity, a space where diversity and freedom meet.

However, Naiomi also witnessed instances of bias that many masqueraders faced, an experience that solidified her determination to create a space that would highlight the varied, beautiful expressions of carnival-goers.

From this commitment, Carnival Slayers emerged as not just a media outlet, but a movement, resonating deeply with both participants and audiences around the world.

Carnival Slayers has since grown into a comprehensive blogging and media entity with significant social media traction: 136,000 followers on Instagram and 80,000 on TikTok.

Beyond its digital reach, it has established itself as the definitive carnival media brand, drawing attention for its vibrant storytelling that encompasses Caribbean music, food, fashion, and cultural traditions.

With a base in the UK and an international presence, Carnival Slayers showcases a range of carnival experiences, allowing followers to revel in the rich tapestries of global Caribbean celebrations.

Shows like Slay the Talk provide an interview stage for Caribbean performers from across the globe, while Slayers Hot Source—a podcast series featuring a diverse panel of eight—tackles everything from the latest trends to thought-provoking, educational discussions.

One of the most anticipated series is The Culture of Notting Hill Carnival, which offers insight into the preparation and effort behind Europe’s largest street festival, featuring conversations with those who contribute to its grandeur and success.

These collaborations illustrate Carnival Slayers’ commitment to being a beacon of cultural celebration and its dedication to creating powerful, connective narratives that resonate with audiences far beyond the UK.
